Fall Fishing in Northern Minnesota
As the weather starts to cool down, Autumn is a great time to hit the Northern Minnesota lakes to fish. River’s Bend Resort and Walleye Inn contributes a fantastic spot for local fishers and traveling anglers on the Rainy River.
September, October, and November offer an ideal fishing season. The natural weather during this time in Minnesota is some of the best, year-round. The skies tend to be bright blue, with a calm and gentle wind. While the temperatures start to cool down. This season allows for the perfect conditions if you’re planning to spend the entire day out on a boat.
Fishing
Over the next few weeks, you’ll find that the Emerald Shiners will start their run of Lake of the Woods. This is a perfect to get on the boat and reel some in. Spotting these shiners means that the Walleye are not far behind.
In Minnesota, Walleye is one of the top sought after breeds of fish. The typical reel is roughly 14 inches in length which weigh about 1 pound. With the average catch, their fleshy white fillets are some of the best to consume, which is why they tend to be, often sought after.
Along with Walleye, Northern Pike is highly sought after by anglers. While often mistaken as Muskies, a Northern produces chunkier, white fillets, and are similar in taste to a Walleye.
