Fall & Spring

The Fall and Spring fishing seasons are the perfect time to head to Lake of the Woods. Fishing the Rainy River for walleye, northern pike, and sturgeon, fall hunting, tournament action, and mother nature at it’s best are just a few of the reasons why!

The emerald shiner run marks the migration of the walleye up Rainy River and the start of exceptional fall fishing. Expect to catch full limits and large trophies while admiring the breathtaking sights enhanced by the fall foliage. The fall hunting opportunities are in abundance as well. Waterfowl, up land, and big game are ready for the taking on many acres of state land. Be sure to familiarize yourself with regulations at http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/hunting/index.html

Whether it’s prehistoric sturgeon or the commonly sought after walleye you are targeting, spring fishing is amazing! The walleye are en route to their spawning grounds in the Rainy River. Walleye season comes to a close mid-April and re opens early May but northern pike and small mouth bass remain open. Book your trip early as this time of the year fills up fast.
