Clothing
It’s important to bring plenty of layers if you’re planning to go out on the open water. If you are starting the day off early you can’t rely on the sun to keep you warm from the start. At the same time, you’re not going to have a lot of shade so during the day you may need to shed some layers as you go. A rain jacket/ windbreaker is a good layer to keep on hand because you never know how the weather will change throughout the day. Sneakers are preferred when fishing for safety and convenience. Hats with brims provide shade and decrease the chance of overheating.
Extra Gear
A lack of shade plus the water’s reflective glare can provide a very uncomfortable experience if you’re not protected. Having sunscreen and lip balm will help protect you from the long fishing days of being out in the sun. Sunglasses are also a necessity. They will cut through the glare on the water to give you a better view of your target fish. If you get any motion sickness bring some over the counter remedies to help make your fishing trip more enjoyable. And since this is Minnesota bug spray is essential! Where there’s water, there are bugs, so come prepared! Bringing a water bottle will help you stay hydrated while out in the heat. Capture your catches with a camera to remember all the memories you will be making. Pack a towel and/or swimsuit in case you want to take a dip to cool off. Bringing a backpack will help keep all these things together so your hands are free for the fishing pole.
